Pechersk Lavra Monastery The territory of the monastery is divided into two parts: the Lower Lavra and the Upper Lavra. The Lower Lavra is an operating monastery – the headquarters of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The Upper Lavra is a museum.On the territory of monastery there are several historical and cultural museums of Ukraine, including the famous Museum of Historical Treasures (Scythian Gold Museum), and the museum of miniatures, museum typography, decorative folk art, music, theater and film, exhibitions of private collections. A special exhibition dedicated to the history of the caves. The high right bank of the Dnipro crowned with golden domes of Kiev-Pechersk Lavra - portion of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the cradle of monasticism in Rus and the strength of the Orthodox faith. Museum of Folk Architecture and life in Pirogovo (Duration of the tour 4 hours) Visiting the national museum as a representative of Ukrainian culture. Museum of folk architecture and life Pirogovo is located in the picturesque place not far from the Holoseyevskiy forest. During a one-day tour the outdoor museum “Pirogovo” allows you to see the most distant places of our country and moreover to see the lifestyle of those living in XVI – XX. The regions represented in the museum are: Poltava, Podolye, Slobozhanshina, Polesye, Middle Dnepr, Carpathian and South of Ukraine. The surface area of the museum is over 150 hectares. About 300 monuments of architecture are located there. The most unique if the are: chapel built in the XVI-th century from Rovno Region, hut built in 1587 from Volyn’ Region, church built in 1600 from Kiev Region and unique collection of windmills. Folk carnivals and fairs take place here on such holidays as the Pancake Week, Easter, St. John’s day, Christmas, Epiphany etc. You can also try Ukrainian cuisine here. At your choice you can visit one of the three restaurants. Souvenirs, products made by craftsmen can also be bought here. At your service is also the Cossack riding school and animal transport.

Architectural pearls of Pechersk (Duration of the tour 3 hours) In this excursion you will see the beautiful old city district Pechersk built in the modernist style. We’ll go down the Luteranskaya str. – a former dwelling place of the German community, see the Lutheran church (Kirche), the first building of the soviet era, the House with Chimeras - one of the main symbols of Kiev, the President’s Administration, the National Bank of Ukraine – one of the most beautiful banks of Europe, the “House of the Crying Widow” – the example of early Modernism, the “Chocolate house”, the house of Kovalevskiy – the imitation of medieval Italian castles, the Parliament building, the Maryinskiy palace built on order of the empress Yelisaveta Petrovna in the middle of the XVIII-th century, the House of Government, the mansion where the famous poet Alexandr Pushkin stayed at the beginning of the XIX-th century, the National museum of Art, the puppet theatre. This excursion will be interesting for those who are fascinated by military history and would like to know more about World War II. The memorial complex “The National museum of the history of the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945” was opened on Dnepr hills on May 9-th 1981. The area of the complex is over 10 hectares. Here you can see the monument to the Motherland, the eternal flame, the statuary arrangement “Dnepr crossing”, military equipment collection, the museum of the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945, and observation decks.

Tour to Podol. (Duration of the tour 3 hours) The tour begins near the Old Kiev Hill – the Hill where the sheer history of Kiev began. Here you will see the fundament of the castle built in the Õ-th century, reconstruction of the pagan temple, ruins of the first Orthodox church built in Kievan Rus – the Desyatynna church. Going down the descent you will see the pearl of architecture, the favorite monument of kievans - the St. Andrew’s church. A little further there is a “Richard the Lionheart” castle and the steeped in mystery house of a prominent writer M. Bulgakov, author of “Mater and Margarita” novel. There is also an observation deck from which you can see the oldest district of Kiev – Podol. You can also visit Florovsky Monastery founded at the beginning of XVI century, is not only the functioning monastery, but also the historical monument. According to some data it was built at the end of the XV century. Then we continue our trip on Andriyivskyy Descend. Andriyivskyy Descend (Andriyivsky uzviz) is one of the oldest streets and tracts, which used to connect Ancient Kyiv with Podil. Andriyivskyy Descend was named after St. Andrew The Apostle. As the legend says, there used to be a sea instead of the Dnipro River. When St. Andrew came to Kyiv and put a cross on the hill (the site of present St. Andrew's Church), the whole sea went down. At present Andriyivskyy Descend is the place of selling exhibition of works of arts and hand-made souvenirs. In any season numerous lot of artists and craftsmen exhibit their works: pictures, glassware, ceramics, fabrics, toys, etc. Walking down the descend you can visit The One Street Museum or see innovative works of young artists,displayed in art galleries and salons. Along the street cafes, bars and restaurants are to be found, where you can enjoy rest while getting chance to appreciate traditional Ukrainian cuisine.

Excursion in the museum of arts.
Center point of the museum exhibition is the collection of Western European art works. All periods of history of Western European art such as Medieval art, Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo and Classicism are presented in the exhibition. The gems of the collection are the unique works by Diego Velasquez, by Giovanni Bellini. You can see there also legendary series of graphic “Disasters of War” and “Caprichos” by Goya. There is a collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts in the museum. The museum Department of Oriental Arts is considered the largest in Ukraine. There are valuable collections of the 15-20 centuries Chinese paintings as well as of Japanese and Indian arts.

Visiting the park of Kyivan Rus. The Park of Kyivan Rus, it is indeed a living place that not only entertains but lets you learn a lot about what life was like in Kyiv a thousand years ago. All sorts of festivals are staged during the tourist season. Knights’ tournaments, all sorts of stunt shows, pagan rituals, masquerades, theatrical performances — the list of what one can witness on a visit to the Park Kyivan Rus is a long one indeed.
